Gandoca-Manzanillo is a protected area that harbors an infinity of species and a biodiversity that serves as a habitat for thousands of species among which stand out; Dolphins, sea turtles, three species of monkeys and endless species of migratory and native birds, also has an important mangrove patch and a remnant of cativounico trees in the area, Gandoca beach is an important area for nesting of sea turtles, mainly the Leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), which is the largest and longest living sea turtle in the ocean.
This site still conserves almost all of the mangroves and wetlands that gave rise to the protected area.
The community of Gandoca located south of the city of Limón accessing the route to Sixaola and taking a detour of 10 km. towards the beach, it has basic services, lodging options, access to electricity and drinking water, local residents for more than 30 years have dedicated themselves to the sustainable use of natural resources, ecotourism activities and the diversified cultivation of products as well as the protection of sea turtles being a pioneer in community awareness.

Spend a few days in this beautiful place full of unsettling peace and disconnected from the bustle of the city, in full harmony with nature listening to nothing but the song of birds, insects and monkeys.

ITINERARY

1st Day – Departing at 8:30 am from Puerto Viejo to Sixaola, a transport will take you to the town of Gandoca, it will be installed in the hostel and later a guide will give you indications of your stay at the site, in the afternoon (14:00) the guide will meet you at the lodge to later go on a tour through the mangroves and Gandoca lagoon, at night (20:00) you must prepare to leave to the beach in search of the turtles together with the local guides or volunteers, returning to the lodge at midnight.

2 st Day -. At 8:00 am, after breakfast you will prepare your departure to the hike by te coastal area (Gandoca-Punta Mona-Manzanillo) and return to your destination hotel.

DESCRIPTION

Gandoca with Punta Mona, you will know this beautiful place continuing along the coastal path that leads to Manzanillo beach.

Going into the forest our guide will tell you the history, use and classification of the species, with the opportunity to observe wildlife among them; Snakes, frogs, monkeys, sloths, a wide variety of birds and many insects that you can appreciate very closely at the best of times. Also you can appreciate the most beautiful views of the ocean and dense coastal forest.

The route is quite long and heavy and good physical condition is recommended. Not suitable for children under 6 years.
